Doctors Without Borders said at least 70 bodies and 300 wounded Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been taken to a hospital in central Gaza since Tuesday after a wave of Israeli strikes. | The charity said on Wednesday in a post on X that Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir Al Balah was struggling to treat “a huge influx of patients, many of them arriving with severe burns, shrapnel wounds, fractures and other traumatic injuries”.  The Israeli military said earlier it had launched new air and ground operations in central Gaza focused on the eastern parts of Deir Al Balah and the built-up Bureij refugee camp.

Former Major General [Res] Gershon Hacohen described Hezbollah's military operations in northern occupied Palestine as “a great art by the likes of [Sayyed Hassan] Nasrallah." | In an interview with Zionist Radio 104.5FM, Hacohen discussed the security situation in northern occupied Palestine, stating "I did not enter into hysteria, ‘Israel’ is in a state of war on all its land, and we are reasonably agitated, because Hezbollah is humiliating us in a very efficient manner, and this is a great art for the likes of Nasrallah.”  He further added: “We must unite in this war for our existence, grasp the need for leadership and common understanding, and acknowledge the concepts that existed before October 6.” In parallel, the former military official underlined that “In order to achieve victory, we must understand the magnitude of the situation we are in.”  He then discussed the threats made by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, so-called “National: Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, and War Cabinet member Benny Gantz to withdraw from the government if Netanyahu agrees to a ceasefire deal in Gaza. He emphasized that “we are in a fateful hour, and this is not a time for political games or for threats of quitting, as this is not how things work in these critical times.”  In a message to the settlers in northern occupied Palestine who are preoccupied with the date of their return to their homes: “War is not a contractual dispute between a client and a contractor seeking a key.”  We must grasp the assumptions behind our involvement with Hezbollah: “US hopes that calm in Gaza will extend to the north are uncertain, no one can guarantee this assumption.”

Permalink Covid vaccines may have contributed to excess deaths – study

Researchers have called for deeper probes into side effects and links to mortality rates | More than three million excess deaths were registered in Western countries during the first three years of the coronavirus pandemic, according to a new study that suggests that Covid vaccines could be partly to blame.  According to the research from Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, published in the journal BMJ Public Health earlier this week, a total of 3,098,456 excess deaths were reported in 47 countries between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2022.  In 2020, 1.03 million excess deaths were reported in the first full year of the pandemic, the study found. The year 2021, when the first vaccines were rolled out, saw over 1.25 million excess deaths, and in 2022 – when Covid-related restrictions were lifted – over 808,000 excess deaths were recorded, according to preliminary data cited in the study.

Permalink Finally: Ukraine Strikes Russian Targets Using US Weapons

According to a report by the New York Times, Ukraine has confirmed the use of US-supplied weapons against targets in Russia. | Ukrainian lawmaker Yegor Chernev stated that Kyiv deployed HIMARS missile systems from the United States to strike a military facility in Russia. This move comes days after the White House authorized such actions.  The strike, as reported by Chernev, targeted Russian missile launchers in the Belgorod region, located approximately 30 kilometers inside Russia's territory. This action marks a significant shift in strategy, given the longstanding reluctance of the Biden administration to escalate tensions with Russia, particularly due to its nuclear capabilities.  For months, the ban on such strikes had been a red line for the Biden administration. However, last week, there was a partial shift in this stance. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby acknowledged this change but ruled out the possibility of the US reconsidering the ban on deeper strikes into Russian territory in the near future.

Permalink NATO preparing troop plans for potential conflict with Russia: Report

NATO is working on plans to rush tens of thousands of US forces along “land corridors” in Western Europe in the event of war with Moscow, a senior strategist has told The Telegraph | Last year, members of the US-led military bloc agreed to keep 300,000 troops ready for deployment, purportedly in response to a potential Russian attack. However, training exercises have exposed red tape and infrastructure bottlenecks that prevent the rapid transfer of personnel and materiel across the continent.  NATO military leadership is therefore working to ensure that the flow of troops would not be stopped by likely Russian strikes on ports used by the US military to unload its cargos, The Telegraph daily reported on Tuesday.  “It is clear that huge logistics bases, as we know it from Afghanistan and Iraq, are no longer possible because they will be attacked and destroyed very early on in a conflict situation,” Lieutenant General Alexander Sollfrank, head of NATO’s JSEC logistics command, told the newspaper.  The primary route for American troops in the event of war with Russia would be via the Dutch port of Rotterdam to Germany and Poland, the report said. Alternative corridors from Italy, Greece, and Türkiye would run through Slovenia and Croatia to Hungary Bulgaria, and Romania. There are also plans to involve Norway, Sweden, and Finland for backup logistics.

Lebanon has accused Israel of using controversial white phosphorus rounds, in attacks authorities say have harmed civilians and the environment. White phosphorus, a substance that ignites on contact with oxygen, can be used to create smokescreens and to illuminate battlefields. | Mohammad Hammud, in his late 70s, was at home with his wife in a south Lebanon border village when Israeli bombing hit. This time, the attack was different. 💬 "Fire broke out in front of the house... there was a strange smell... we had trouble breathing," he told AFP by telephone from his village of Hula. "We thought it was a regular bombing but when the emergency responders arrived they told us it was phosphorus and took us to hospital," he said.  The Israeli military and Lebanon's powerful Hezbollah movement have been exchanging near-daily fire since Palestinian resistance group Hamas's unprecedented October 7 attack on Israel sparked the Gaza war.

The attacks on al-Bureij refugee camp come as US says it awaits a response from Hamas regarding ceasefire talks | At least 66 people have been killed in Israel’s bombing on central Gaza over the past 24 hours, Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Gaza has reported.  The central refugee camps of al-Bureij and Maghazi were the most affected, as Israeli forces claim to be hitting Hamas targets while ground troops operate “in a focused manner with guidance from intelligence” in the al-Bureij area.  Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, reportedly the only medical facility offering services in central Gaza, is currently “overflowing with wounded people”, many of whom are being treated on the floor, according to a spokesperson from the Gaza health ministry.  Many displaced Palestinians have since fled al-Bureij, which is one of the places that hosted displaced Palestinians escaping the southern city of Rafah following Israel’s latest operations in the former shelter city.  Israeli tanks have reportedly reached as far as the centre of Rafah, with questions arising over the US's alleged "red line" regarding Israeli attacks on the Palestinian city.

The former senior official worked with doctors who allegedly took advantage of a burgeoning black market, according to a report | A former Ukrainian deputy health minister is suspected of being involved in a criminal conspiracy to harvest human organs at hospitals, according to local media.  The criminal group also included doctors, some of whom were employed by a prestigious clinic in Kyiv, the Ukrainian news outlet Strana said on Monday, citing sources in law enforcement. There are reportedly 11 suspects in the case, none of whom were named.  “Organs were harvested from incapacitated people and sold. All members of the criminal group are facing charges under three articles of the criminal code. They may be punished by up to 12 years in jail,” one source said.  Ukraine has become a hotbed for organ harvesting amid the conflict with Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova alleged in an article last year. She argued that the Ukrainian government was facilitating the illegal trade after it significantly deregulated transplantation in 2021.

Russia’s response to what Washington’s “clients” in Ukraine do may be “asymmetrical” and stronger than expected, the senior diplomat has warned | The US is close to making a “fatal” miscalculation in its attempts to deal with Russia and the Ukraine conflict, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has warned.  The senior diplomat commented on Monday on the reported US decision to let Kiev use American weapons outside what Washington considers Ukrainian territory. The move is supposedly limited to a small piece of Russia’s Belgorod Region relevant to hostilities across the border in Ukraine’s Kharkov Region. 💬 ”I’d like to warn American actors against miscalculations that can lead to fatal consequences. For some unclear reason they underestimate how serious a response they could face,” Ryabkov told journalists. Up to then the stated US policy had been to ban such attacks, to prevent triggering “World War III.” Kiev has said it is disappointed by the change, as it wants permission to fire long-range American weapons deep inside Russia.

Permalink Ukraine Will Return to Neutrality or Face Partition or Annihilation

Mike Whitney | They’re merely exploring more creative ways of garnering support for their failed crusade. That’s what the so-called ‘peace conference’ is all about, luring more recruits to the Ukraine bandwagon. | When Ukraine made its declaration of state sovereignty in July 1990, it pledged to be “a permanently neutral state.” And while it remained committed to that neutral status there was no hostility between Moscow and Kiev. But as soon as the United States toppled Ukraine’s government in the 2014 coup, Ukraine moved to renounce its neutrality, which is when all their problems began. What’s clear is that independent Ukrainian leaders did not choose to abandon neutrality. That decision was made in Washington by neocons who wanted to move their globalist army closer to Russia’s border. This isn’t speculation, this is what happened. NATO lied about ‘not moving one inch east” after the reunification of Germany and continued to push eastward until they were right on Russia ‘s doorstep. Finally—after being shoved into a corner—Russia pursued the only option available and pushed back.
