Permalink Israeli attacks on UNIFIL 'may constitute a war crime'

The UN Secretary-General has condemned recent Israeli attacks on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, saying that it “may constitute a war crime.” | "UNIFIL personnel and its premises must never be targeted," Stephane Dujarric said, adding, "Attacks against peacekeepers are in breach of international law." "In a deeply worrying incident that occurred on Sunday, the entrance door of a UN position was deliberately breached by [the Israeli military] armored vehicles," he added in a statement.  UNIFIL said the regime’s forces had "deliberately" fired shots at its headquarters in the town of Naqoura in recent days. He urged all parties, including the Israeli military to refrain from any action that put UN peacekeepers at risk. At least five peacekeepers have been wounded in recent days in southern Lebanon. Israeli prime minister war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu has called on Guterres to relocate peacekeepers from southern Lebanon.

Hungary's agenda does not include Ukraine's accession to NATO, since this would mean a direct confrontation between the alliance and Russia and would lead to World War III, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said in an interview with Sputnik. | According to Szijjarto, since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, Budapest has drawn red lines — one of them is that it is necessary to "do our best and utmost in order to avoid any form of direct confrontation between NATO and Russia." According to the minister, most of his colleagues from NATO countries, in conversations with Ukrainian representatives, talk about Kiev's possible accession to the alliance, but in a closed circle they admit that this is impossible.

The UN’s Special Rapporteur on occupied Palestinian territories calls out Israel’s dangerous expansionist agenda and lays out her vision for peace in the Middle East. | So, we should be able to take a step back and see that this is not just about Israel versus Palestine or Israelis versus Palestinians. I agree with the Pope when he says the Palestinians are not victims of a war, they are victims of an ideology. But I wonder if today we cannot see that this ideology is much broader than the land of Palestine and touches all of us. How do you define this ideology? This ideology we are talking about is the one that conceives the right to exist in the land that was a historical Palestine. And Israel sees it as Greater Israel unified from the [Jordan] river to the [Mediterranean] sea. Several Israeli politicians and leaders are openly talking about the fact that Greater Israel should include parts of Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. I mean, it's unconscionable what we are sort of letting Israel get away with [this]. But again, there is an ideology that envisages the right to exist in this land for the Jewish people only.

Why Macron wants off the Israel bandwagon (Rachel Marsden) | French President Emmanuel Macron would like Israel to slow its roll now, please. Because it’s acting like a spoiled brat who has been given a Ferrari by the West, and now behaves like the rules of the road don’t exist, blowing past every exit ramp en route to escalation with its neighbors.  And now the inevitable has happened: a head-on collision between Israeli and French interests. Because that’s the thing with spoiled brats – the day you say “No,” you, too, become a problem.  All this is happening now because Israel has crossed a red line for France in subjecting Lebanon to what the Western establishment would be blatantly calling an “invasion,” if Lebanon were Ukraine and Israel were Russia. French is spoken by about half of the Lebanese population and France considers the country to be within its sphere of influence, both linguistic and economic.

Andrew Korybko | It’s important for the public to be more aware of this since it helps explain Russian and Israeli policies towards one another in the context of the Ukrainian Conflict and the regional Israeli-Resistance War. | There’s been grassroots pressure on Turkiye to cut off Azerbaijan’s oil exports to Israel via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline ever since what can now be described as the regional Israeli-Resistance War broke out one year ago. Activists believe that this trade literally fuels Israel’s war machine and thus makes all the involved parties indirectly complicit in its alleged war crimes. Regardless of whatever one thinks about this claim, what’s interesting is that there’s no such pressure upon Russia.
