The Iranian Revolutionary Guard attacked Israel with more over 200 ballistic missiles on October 1, 2024, targeting vital military and strategic sites. | According to Suleiman Maswadeh, Channel 11's political reporter, Israel's reaction to Iran would be tightly coordinated with the US. "This situation has a high potential for escalation, so it must be managed carefully to avoid surprising Israel's allies in Washington," he cited Israeli officials as saying.  Maswadeh continued, saying that the incident is the subject of serious talks between the United States and Israel. Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Joe Biden in the next few days.  Yaron Avraham, the political reporter for Channel 12, went on to say that the expected Israeli reaction is "harsh and fully coordinated with the U.S., likely to be executed within days." He cited officials in the Israeli cabinet who said, "This response is necessary and will exact a heavy toll on Iran's regime."

Permalink Israel's reckless decision to bar UN chief marks dangerous diplomatic shift

This unprecedented event is yet another example of how far Israel is willing to go to undermine global mediation efforts. | While much of the world's focus remains on the broader regional conflict, this unprecedented political move by Israel has received relatively little attention, underscoring the deepening rift between the Israeli government and the UN at a critical moment.  On October 2, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz barred Guterres from entering Israel. This ministry said this was in direct response to the Portuguese diplomat's reaction following Iran's missile strike on Tel Aviv, in which he allegedly failed to explicitly name Iran or strongly condemn its actions. [...] However, the situation has sparked significant international attention and condemnation. More global leaders have been criticising Israel's behaviour and siding with Guterres. France for example declared the decision as an "unjustified, serious and counterproductive" move. Similarly, Portugal's President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa lamented this action and asked the Israeli government to reconsider it.

The Israeli occupation forces continue to commit acts of genocide across the Gaza Strip as the war nears its one-year mark. | Several Palestinians were killed and others injured early this Friday due to airstrikes by Israeli occupation forces targeting areas in Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah in the Gaza Strip.  Medical sources reported that four Palestinians were murdered and others injured in an attack on a residential home east of Deir al-Balah in the central region of the Strip.  The Israeli occupation forces also bombed homes and a site sheltering displaced individuals in both Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis, while also dropping incendiary bombs that caused fires in homes in the al-Nuseirat refugee camp. This was accompanied by artillery shelling targeting southern Gaza City.

Permalink Israel bombards Beirut after deadliest West Bank strike in decades

Israel bombarded south Beirut at least 10 times late Thursday, Lebanese sources said, after it launched its deadliest strike on the occupied West Bank in decades. | The escalating assaults by Israel come as it weighs retaliation for Iran’s barrage of missiles fired at the country, with the United States saying Israel hitting Iranian oil facilities is on the table. Iran said the attack was its response to the killing of Hassan Nasrallah, chief of its ally Hezbollah, and other top figures.  There was no let-up to Israeli strikes on Beirut, with AFP correspondents in the capital and beyond hearing loud bangs that made buildings shake. The military launched 11 consecutive strikes on Hezbollah’s south Beirut stronghold late Thursday, a source close to the group told AFP, while the official National News Agency (NNA) put the tally at more than 10. The Israeli military said it hit “targets belonging to Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters in Beirut”.  Israel’s bombing in Lebanon has killed more than 1,000 people, according to the Lebanese health ministry, and forced hundreds of thousands to flee their homes in a nation already mired in economic and political crisis.

Permalink Oil prices surge as US, Israel discuss strikes on Iranian oil facilities

Oil price soared on Thursday after US President Joe Biden said the United States was discussing with Israel possible strikes on Iranian oil facilities. | WTI, the US contract, rose by as much as five percent before paring back some gains to sit at around $73 per barrel while Brent, the international benchmark, rose around four percent to $76.81. Biden told reporters at the White House however that he was not expecting Israel to launch any retaliation for Tehran's missile barrage on Israel before Thursday at least. When asked by a reporter if he supported Israel striking Iran's oil facilities, Biden said "we're discussing that. I think that would be a little... anyway."  A rise in oil prices could be hugely damaging for Biden's Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democrat confronts Republican former president Donald Trump in a November 5 election where the cost of living is a major issue. Biden said he did not expect any immediate action from Israel -- even if Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has recently paid little heed to calls for restraint as he targets the Iran-allied Hezbollah militia in Lebanon.

Permalink The BBC Is Weaponising Its Lebanon Reporting to Help Disguise Israel’s Crimes

Jonathan Cook | Western publics are being subjected to an unprecedented campaign of media propaganda to conceal Israel’s true goals as it expands the slaughter [...] Words like “audacious”, “escalation” and “targets” have become tools to conceal meaning, not to illuminate – and for good reason. Because Israel’s actions are so obviously criminal, so obviously horrifying, so obviously genocidal. Language becomes a weapon to hide the truth.  The media chorus goes like this: Israel is attacking Lebanon to stop Hezbollah rocket fire and allow the residents of Israel’s most northerly communities to return home. Or in the blunter, Orwellian language of Israeli officials framing this horror show: Israel must “escalate to de-escalate”.  Lebanese civilians are paying the heaviest price: some 550 of them were killed in the first day of Israel’s bombing campaign alone. Many tens of thousands have been driven – ethnically cleansed – from the territory of south Lebanon.

Permalink Iran to hit all Israel infrastructures if Zionists not curbed

BREAKING: Iraqi militias have issued a statement warning U.S. forces that if Iraqi airspace is used to strike Iran, all U.S. bases will come under attack by these militias. (Hal Turner, see below)| The Chief of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces has warned of hitting all infrastructures in Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories if the Zionists are not leashed. | Referring to Iran's retaliatory attack against the Israeli regime on Tuesday night which was a response to the Israeli regime's continuous crimes in the region and the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri said that the Israeli regime's crimes could no longer be tolerated.

💬 "The last two months were two very difficult months for the Iranian nation and the Axis of Resistance," he said, referring to the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and the West's calls on Iran to exercise restraint in order to establish a ceasefire in Gaza.

But the criminal Zionist regime increased its crimes with the support and the green light of the United States, he added. Saying that the IRGC missile operation against Israel achieved its goals in hitting the important Zionist regime's military bases, Bagheri said that despite the Israeli regime's unleashed crimes, Iran only targeted military centers of the Tel Aviv regime. He added that the Mossad headquarters, Nevatim Airbase, and Hatzerim Airbase were the targets.

HAL TURNER ANALYSIS AND COMMENTARY: Today's attack by Iran has been two+ months coming. When Israel bombed Ismail Heniyeh at a building in Tehran, just 750 meters from Iran's Presidential Palace, it was an "attack" upon Iran. They bombed a building in Iran. Iran has a right under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter (and common sense) to hit Israel back. Now, that's what Iran has done.  Well, to listen to the Israelis and their cheerleaders, one would think today's military retaliation was "unprovoked." It was NOT unprovoked. Israel bombed a guy in Tehran and now Iran has bombed back.  But let's call a spade a spade, Israel has also been bombing Iranian military officers inside Syria for the past two years. Israel has also been bombing Iranian military supply warehouses in Syria for years. And it's always the same excuse "They were going to attack Israel."  There was no sign of such a pending attack. There was no actual attack, but whatever Israel dreams up as an excuse, they rely upon to justify their murderous actions. [...] Iran was right to slap Israel; Israel deserved it.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange testified during a Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) hearing, and spoke about his U.K. imprisonment at HM Prison Belmarsh and his plea deal with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). Assange said he chose freedom over justice, stating:

💬 I eventually chose freedom over unrealizable justice, after being detained for years and facing a 175 year sentence with no effective remedy…. Justice for me is now precluded, as the U.S. government insisted in writing into its plea agreement that I cannot file a case at the European Court of Human Rights or even a freedom of information act request over what it did to me as a result of its extradition request. I want to be totally clear. I am not free today because the system worked. I am free today because after years of incarceration I plead guilty to journalism. I plead guilty to seeking information from a source. I plead guilty to obtaining information from a source. And I plead guilty to informing the public what that information was. I did not plead guilty to anything else.

💬 President Obama’s Justice Department chose not to indict me, recognizing that no crime had been committed. The United States had never before prosecuted a publisher for publishing or obtaining government information. To do so would require a radical and ominous reinterpretation of the US Constitution…. However, in February 2017, the landscape changed dramatically. President Trump had been elected. He appointed two wolves in MAGA hats: Mike Pompeo, a Kansas congressman and former arms industry executive, as CIA Director, and William Barr, a former CIA officer, as US Attorney General…. CIA Director Pompeo launched a campaign of retribution. It is now a matter of public record that under Pompeo’s explicit direction, the CIA drew up plans to kidnap and to assassinate me within the Ecuadorian Embassy in London and authorized going after my European colleagues, subjecting us to theft, hacking attacks, and the planting of false information.

Permalink The Latest Chemical Weapons False Flag Scare In Syria Is Suspiciously Timed

Andrew Korybko | It’s possible that this scenario was speedily devised sometime in the past month after the aerial phase of the latest Israeli-Lebanese War began. | Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) warned on Tuesday that some NATO countries and Ukraine are preparing a chemical weapons false flag provocation in Syria so as to discredit Russia in the Global South. They specified that “The plan of the operation envisages the militants dropping a mined container with chlorine from a UAV during strikes by the Syrian Armed Forces and the Russian Aerospace Forces on terrorist groups' positions in the Idlib de-escalation zone”, which the White Helmets will then film.  The timing is suspicious since it coincides with the start of Israel’s ground operation in Lebanon.
