Hayat Tahrir-al-Sham (HTS), a terrorist group formerly known as Jabhat al-Nusra and affiliated with Al Qaeda, attacked government-controlled territory in the north of the country on Wednesday alongside a collection of allied militias, breaking a fragile truce brokered by Russia and Türkiye in 2020.

At least ten law enforcement officers have been injured in clashes with demonstrators in Tbilisi | Police detained several dozen protesters at demonstrations in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi on Friday night during unrest that ensued after opposition parties denounced the government’s decision to freeze Georgia’s EU accession talks.  According to a statement released on Saturday by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, at least 107 activists have been detained “for disobedience” and “petty hooliganism.”  Crowds of protesters have been flocking to Tbilisi’s central Rustaveli Avenue since Thursday evening, when Georgia’s French-born president, Salome Zourabichvili, accused the country’s ruling Georgian Dream party of declaring “war” on its own people by postponing EU accession negotiations until 2028.  Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said earlier on Thursday that his government does not renounce the goal of joining the bloc eventually, but won’t take steps to do it now. He accused Brussels of using the talks to meddle in Georgian politics, saying that the country should not bow to “constant blackmail and manipulation” from EU officials.

Permalink Hezbollah not defeated, not close to being defeated: Israeli media

Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth underlines that Hezbollah was not close to being defeated in the north as settlers clamor about losing. | Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth has described the recent ceasefire agreement with Lebanon as a "broad implementation of Resolution 1701 under US leadership," while acknowledging the challenges faced by the Israeli occupation during the war.  In a report, the newspaper stated that critics of the agreement within Israel overlook fundamental realities, particularly that "Hezbollah was not defeated, nor was it close to being defeated." While the group sustained significant blows, it "continued fighting" throughout the conflict, the report noted.  The article highlighted a prevalent sentiment among Israelis who question why the Israeli occupation's military superiority has not succeeded in creating a new status quo free of threats or in forcing Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah and establish a security buffer zone.

Permalink Why the United States Will Lose a War with Russia

Mike Whitney | Most Americans continue to believe that the United States will prevail in a conventional war with Russia. But that is simply not the case. | For starters, Russia’s state-of-the-art missile technology and missile defense systems are vastly superior to those produced by western weapons manufacturers. Secondly, Russia can field an army of more than 1 million battle-hardened combat troops who have experienced high-intensity warfare and are prepared to engage whatever enemy they may face in the future. Third, the United States no longer has the industrial capacity to match Russia’s impressive output of lethal weaponry, artillery shells, ammunition, and cutting-edge ballistic missiles. In short, Russian military capability far exceeds that of the US in the areas that really count: High-tech weaponry, military industrial capacity, and experienced manpower. In order to drive this overall point home, I’ve taken excerpts from the work of three military analysts who explain these matters in greater detail underscoring the dramatic shortcomings of the modern US military and the problems it is likely to encounter when faced with a more technologically advanced and formidable adversary. [...] Bottom line: The United States no longer has the industrial base or the requisite stockpiles to prevail in a prolonged war between two near-peer powers. Simply put, the US will not win an extended conventional war with Russia.

Permalink Germany Undertakes "Bunker Plan" in Preparation for War

Germany is working on a ‘bunker plan’ including a smartphone app to direct citizens to the nearest shelter in case of an emergency, after Russian President Putin said he reserved the right to bomb the allies of Ukraine. | The Bundesamt für Bevölkerungsschutz und Katastrophenhilfe — it really rolls off the tongue — better known as the BKK or the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance has embarked on a project to figure out where the country’s remaining bomb shelters are and how many are still fit for use.  In addition to long-neglected facilities designed for the purpose, officials will also be looking at the potential of converting subway stations, government buildings, and even private basements.  The “bunker plan” is part of the nation’s response to Russia bombing Ukrainian city Dnipro with an unarmed nuclear-capable ballistic missile last week. The weapon was a new design, Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed, asserting it is both ‘hypersonic’ and impervious to countermeasures, its launch seen as a clear message to Ukraine’s backers.

Permalink ⚡How The New Russian Missiles Are Changing The Game

Moon of Alabama | Oreshnik is, so far, a non nuclear weapon with a limited (5,000 kilometer) range. But there is nothing in principle that hinders Russia from equipping an ICBM missile with similar non-nuclear capabilities. It would make non-nuclear strikes by Russia on U.S. grounds, or more likely on U.S. foreign bases and aircraft carriers, possible. [...] Russia has closed the airspace over the Kapustin Yar missile range until November 30. Kapustin Yar is the test range from which the Oreshnik had been fired. As there is no defense possible against Oreshnik type weapons Russia could announce a strike on the U.S. controlled Redzikow base in Poland days or hours before it would take place. As the strike would be announced, conventional in type and would cause few if any casualties it seems unlikely that NATO would apply Article 5 to it and to hit back with force. Such would become a moment where the boiling of the frog would start again but this time with the U.S. being the frog inside of the vessel. Russia, by hitting U.S. bases in Europe by conventional means, would increase the temperature day after day. Would the U.S. dare to go nuclear over this or rather retreat from its plans to defeat Russia?

Permalink RUSSIA ISSUES NOTAM - KAPUSTIN YAR

Russia has issued another Notice To Air Missions (NOTAM) closing its air space over Kapustin Yar. This was the area from which Russia launched its new Oreshnik Ballistic Missile at Ukraine last week. | Since that Russian launch, which utterly obliterated a Soviet-era munitions factory inside Ukraine, the Ukrainians have again used American-supplied ATACMS to launch at least THREE MORE attacks into Russia, primarily in the Kursk region. It seems logical to believe Russia is going to launch again as response to Ukraine continuing to use west-supplied missiles to strike interior Russia. One might also theorize that it won't be just one Oreshnik this time. UPDATE: Russian Television is showing graphics to viewers describing how fast the Oreshnik Ballistic Missiles can hit "U.S. Bases in the Middle East" and "U.S. Bases in Alaska, Pearl Harbor, and in Guam" and "U.S. Minuteman III Missile Silos in Montana and North Dakota."

Permalink NATO To Attack Russia With Nuclear Weapons Using Ukraine as a Pretext?

Dmitry Medvedev (Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council) (Дмитрий Медведев) |Transfer of nuclear weapons to Kiev will be equated to an attack on Russia | American politicians and journalists are seriously discussing the consequences of giving Kiev nuclear weapons. It seems that my sad joke about the mad senile Biden, who decided to pass away beautifully, taking with him a significant part of humanity, is turning into a frightening reality. Handing over nuclear weapons to a country at war with a major nuclear power? The very idea is so absurd that it raises suspicion of paranoid psychosis in Joe The Walking Dead and all those who argue about the feasibility of such a step. And yet one has to comment on the nonsense:

1) the very threat of transferring nuclear weapons to the Kiev regime can be seen as preparation for a nuclear conflict with Russia;
2) the actual transfer of such weapons can be equated to an accomplished act of attack on our country in the sense of clause 19 of the Principles of State Policy in the Field of Nuclear Weapons. 19 of the Fundamentals of State Policy on Nuclear Deterrence.

The consequences are obvious.
