Permalink Germany justifies Israel killing of 100 Palestinians at school shelter in Gaza

Despite strong international condemnation, including from the EU, of Israel’s brutal attack on a school sheltering displaced Palestinians in Gaza, which killed at least 100 people, Germany justified it on Monday, saying Tel Aviv has the “right to defend itself”, Anadolu Agency reports. | The reality is that Hamas uses schools, hospitals, kindergartens as command centres and that the people in the Gaza Strip are also abused against their will as protective (human) shields,” government deputy spokesman, Wolfgang Buechner, told the press in Berlin, echoing Israel’s claims after each such attack. Buechner, however, provided no evidence to back up his allegations against Hamas, which are consistent with Israeli propaganda used to justify lethal attacks on civilians in Gaza.

Permalink UK, France, Germany call on Iran to refrain from attacking 'Israel'

The United Kingdom, France, and Germany issue a joint statement calling on Iran to refrain from attacking the Israeli occupation after the latter violated its sovereignty. | The leaders of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom issued a joint statement in which they expressed their support for ongoing diplomatic efforts led by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States to secure a ceasefire and release the captives in Gaza, in light of the ongoing genocide. [...] Moreover, they went on to call on Iran and its allies, likely the Ansar Allah movement in Yemen and the Hezbollah Resistance movement in Lebanon, to refrain from taking any actions that would "further escalate regional tensions and jeopardize the opportunity to agree a ceasefire and the release of hostages." The statement held them responsible "for actions that jeopardize this opportunity for peace and stability" while completely disregarding the actions of the Israeli occupation that forced the hand of Iran and its allies to respond to it, to begin with.

At least 100 people were killed and dozens others wounded in Israel's bombing of a school in Gaza City, Press TV reported on Telegram. | The Government Media Office in Gaza stated that "Israel" committed a horrendous massacre during the early hours of Saturday at the Al-Tabieen school in Gaza City, killing over 100 Palestinians and wounding dozens of others.

💬 "Due to the enormity of the massacre and the rising number of victims, medical and civil defense teams have not yet been able to retrieve all the bodies," it said in a statement.

The media office held both "Israel" and the US administration responsible, pointing out that the Israeli occupation army launched a direct attack on the school, where many displaced individuals who had sought refuge were performing morning prayers, which led to a massive number of martyrs. More than 300 people were present at the time of the Israeli bombing, the media office added. It condemned this "horrific massacre in the strongest terms and [called] on the entire world to condemn it." The government office also demanded that the international community and international organizations put pressure on the occupation to stop the genocide and ethnic cleansing in Gaza.

Permalink Nagasaki remembers 70,000 victims of atomic bomb — and Gaza

Nagasaki local government keeps away Israel from the event to commemorate nuclear bombing of Japan by America during World War 2. | Nagasaki has observed "moment of silence" in a ceremony marking the 1945 atomic bombing of the Japanese city by United States in 1945, but the event was skipped by many Western countries because Nagasaki's mayor declined to invite Israel amid its genocidal war on Gaza. During the World War 2, an atomic bomb dropped by the United States on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, destroyed the city, killing 140,000 people. A second bomb dropped three days later on Nagasaki killed 70,000 more.

Permalink Israel Is in a Death Spiral. Who Will It Take Down With It?

Jonathan Cook | There should be nothing surprising about the revelation that troops at Sde Teiman, a detention camp set up by Israel in the wake of Hamas’s 7 October attack on southern Israel, are routinely using rape as a weapon of torture against Palestinian inmates. | Last week, nine soldiers from a prison unit, Force 100, were arrested for gang-raping a Palestinian inmate with a sharp object. He had to be hospitalised with his injuries.  At least 53 prisoners are known to have died in Israeli detention, presumed in most cases to be either through torture or following the denial of access to medical care. No investigations have been carried out by Israel and no arrests have been made.  Why should it be of any surprise that Israel’s self-proclaimed “most moral army in the world” uses torture and rape against Palestinians? It would be truly surprising if this was not happening. After all, this is the same military that for 10 months has used starvation as a weapon of war against the 2.3 million people of Gaza, half of them children.

Eight reservists have been accused of sodomizing a prisoner with a broomstick | The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) arrested eight reservists on Monday as part of a probe into alleged torture of a Palestinian captive, prompting rioters, including several lawmakers, to break into a military base demanding their release. One argued that nothing was off-limits when it came to dealing with Hamas.  Ten soldiers were originally caught up in the investigation. Two were released early on Wednesday, while eight were ordered to remain in custody through Sunday. According to the IDF, they have been accused of aggravated sodomy, causing bodily harm, abuse, and conduct unbecoming of a soldier.  The arrest of the reservists on Monday interrupted a meeting of the Knesset Finance Committee, as a MP of the ruling Likud party, Hanoch Milwidsky, tried to walk out in protest.

Mike Whitney | Israel’s activities in the north have resulted in mass evacuations that have intensified the suffering of the traumatized population. | Unit 601 of the IDF’s Combat Engineering Corps is clearing a vast swath of land across central Gaza splitting the 25-mile-long territory into two parts. The so-called Netzarim corridor (Highway 749)—which crosses Gaza from east to west—will provide faster transport for IDF troops operating in the area and will also function as vital part of Israel’s security cordon separating the north from the south. There is no doubt that military outposts will be established along the corridor as well as in locations along the western coast. The aim of these actions is to protect the development of new settlements that will be built north of the corridor. In short, the Israeli government is using its war on Hamas to divert attention from its real objective which is the expansion of the Jewish state on Palestinian land.
