The Dive-LD Shock: When the Hunter Is Hunted
In the early hours of September 8, 2026, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy detected and intercepted a U.S. unmanned underwater vehicle at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz. The vehicle, identified in published information as a Dive-LD manufactured by U.S. company Anduril, was diverted from its original course and brought into Iranian waters. | The incident is significant because the Dive-LD is not an ordinary vessel or merely an experimental platform. It is designed to carry out intelligence and surveillance missions underwater, detect mines, map the seafloor, inspect cables and pipelines, and support anti-submarine operations. The vehicle is approximately 5.8 meters long, weighs nearly three tons, can reportedly remain underwater for up to 10 days, and has a modular architecture that allows it to carry a range of sensors and mission-specific equipment.
