An overnight Israeli strike killed an entire Palestinian family in the Beit Lahia Project in northern Gaza: Momen Ahmad, his wife, Haneen Saleh, and their two daughters, sisters Lana, 12, and Bana, 8.
The family had repaired two rooms in the middle of their partially destroyed home and were living there when it was struck. No one survived.
“It was around 11 at night. People were asleep, just staying in their homes,” a relative, Zuhair Al-Haisami, told Drop Site’s Mohamed Ahmed.
Al-Haisami said heavy gunfire from Israeli forces and Israeli-backed Palestinian militias was directed at homes for more than an hour before Momen’s home was struck at around 2 a.m.
“There was shooting from the Israeli side, or rather, from the militias, at the houses and at people while they were inside their homes,” he said. “People tried to flee the area.”
Residents spent hours trying to recover the family from beneath the rubble as Israeli forces continued firing toward the area.
“We managed to recover three bodies. There is also a little girl—we managed to recover part of her body, but the rest is still under the rubble,” Al-Haisami said, adding that Israeli fire prevented them from retrieving the rest of her remains.
Footage shows the bodies of the family being brought to Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, with the two young sisters placed together in a single body bag.
“They tell the world that there is a ceasefire, but there is absolutely no ceasefire in the Gaza Strip,” Al-Haisami said.
