The war in Ukraine has become a media war and a psychological operation of enormous proportions. However, as Russia's victory becomes increasingly clear, the media is beginning to take a more nuanced and truthful approach. Here we will briefly highlight some lesser-known aspects of the issue.

1. A red line – an existential threat | During the Cuban Missile Crisis, the US said of the Soviet Union, which was sending shiploads of missiles to Cuba: "This is crossing a red line, an existential threat to the US. If the Soviet Union crosses it, there will be war." Fortunately, mature leaders talked and found a good solution, and there was no war.

In 2008, Putin said about NATO's eastward expansion: "This is crossing a red line, an existential threat to Russia. If the US/NATO crosses it, there will be war.“ The US responded: ”Ukraine is free to decide who it wants to belong to." And there was war.

2. The promise that was broken | The promise made by the US, NATO, and West Germany upon the dissolution of the Soviet Union, which was a prerequisite for East Germany's incorporation into West Germany, was crystal clear and referred to on several occasions: “NATO would not expand eastward, not one inch.” Some 30 documents, minutes, telegrams, memos, and correspondence have been collected at George Washington University, where they were released in 2017.

The US and NATO have behaved as if this promise was never made or never had any validity. Former NATO Chief Jens Stoltenberg tried to explain it away by saying that "no written agreement was ever made." Jens Stoltenberg should know that a verbal promise is just as valid as a written promise. And as an aside: the agreement between Kennedy and Khrushchev was also verbal.

3. Economic aid – to whom? | Jeffrey Sachs was an economic advisor to Poland, among others, after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Poland faced enormous economic problems, and Sachs contacted the White House. As a result, Poland received support and assistance in sorting out its economy.

The economy of the new Russia was also in ruins after the collapse, and they contacted Sachs to see if it was possible to get help like Poland had received. Sachs contacted the White House and received a flat NO. Russia had to fend for itself; help was out of the question. Sachs was very surprised by the response.

Jeffrey Sachs, economist, advisor, and personal advisor to three UN Secretaries-General, has not been interviewed by the Norwegian broadcaster (NRK) because his opinions do not fit NRK's “profile.” However, there are many excellent interviews/lectures with him on YouTube.

US National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzeziński saw Ukraine as a key piece in the game of Eurasian power balance. He believed that without Ukraine, Russia would never be able to rise again as a superpower. He was among the first to devise a strategy for expanding NATO eastward in the early 1990s (1993?), and the expansion was realized in 1999.

4. The expansion of NATO after 1991 | The Czech Republic became a member in 1999, Hungary in 1999, Poland in 1999, Bulgaria in 2004, Estonia in 2004, Latvia in 2004, Lithuania in 2004, Romania in 2004, Slovakia in 2004, Slovenia in 2004, Albania in 2009, Croatia in 2009, Montenegro in 2017, North Macedonia in 2020, Finland in 2023, and Sweden in 2024.

Russia is now almost surrounded by NATO.

5. Russophobes | Ukraine's coup government was composed of a group of strongly Russophobic, Nazi-inspired young men, known for marching in parades displaying Nazi symbols. Victoria Nuland had a hand in the “appointments,” discussing with the US ambassador in Kiev who should be in the new government. This was a week before the coup itself, which had been designed by the US. There is little doubt that the government was chosen by Americans who hated Russia as much as those whom they selected.

6. Ethnic Russians exposed | After the coup, it became clear that ethnic Russians in Ukraine were not only about to lose the right to speak Russian and practice Russian religion and culture, but they were in danger of losing their lives. Many fled to Russia, while military forces in the eastern counties broke away from the Ukrainian army and began fighting for their liberation from Ukraine with the equipment they had brought with them, and a civil war like front developed between them with mutual artillery fire.

What is certain is that the coup regime in Kiev did not represent the broad masses of the people. This was the US regime, designed to do the US's job.

7. Crimea | The Russians saw which way the wind was blowing, and annexed Crimea immediately after the coup in Kiev, before the new coup regime had time to respond militarily. A referendum later showed that the vast majority of Crimeans voted to place Crimea under Russian rule.

8. The Minsk agreements | In the years following 2014, Russia, Germany, and France attempted to negotiate a peaceful solution through the Minsk I and Minsk II agreements. These agreements provided for self-government and linguistic rights for the regions of eastern Ukraine. In retrospect, Western leaders such as Angela Merkel and François Hollande have stated that the goal was never to implement Minsk, but to “buy time” to arm Ukraine for war. Russiaconsidered this to be treason – and a harbinger of something even more serious.

9. Armed to NATO standards | Between 2014 and February 2022, the US armed Ukraine to NATO standards. By 2022, the army appeared strong, numerous, and well-equipped, with built-in intelligence from the US and UK via AWACS aircraft, satellites, secure communications, and a host of advisors. In addition, people from all over the world showed up wanting to don Ukrainian uniforms and fight against the Russians. Everything was in place for the US/NATO/Ukraine to finally deal Russia a long-awaited fatal blow.

The richest Ukrainians fled on the first day, and their children have never seen the inside of a trench.

Then, soon after this, the Ukrainians increased their artillery bombardment of Donetsk and Luhansk to such an extent that Putin was forced to intervene and launch his special operation in 2022.

10. The Istanbul peace initiative | After a short time, the parties met in Istanbul and negotiated a peace agreement that would have been favorable for Ukraine, especially compared to the peace offer they can expect today. But Boris Johnson, the former Prime Minister of the UK, traveled to Kyiv on behalf of the US/NATO and told the Ukrainians that they must not agree to any deal. They were going to win this war together, and everyone was involved and supporting Ukraine with everything they had. So he said.

11. Campaign | The Russians must always be condemned | Western leaders have unanimously condemned Russia's legitimate Special Operation in Ukraine. However, they have not condemned the US for waging equally extensive wars based on lies, deception, and propaganda, such as in Iraq. Western leaders boycott and sanction Russia, but do not criticize or boycott the US for its participation with weapons, bombs, money, and diplomatic support for Israel's genocide.

12. A War Provoked | In this process, the US has “played” Russia from one position to another, managing to maneuver Russia exactly where the US wanted it: into an “illegal full-scale war of aggression” where the opponent was in reality the US and NATO. Russia was to be destabilized, the regime was to be replaced, the country was to be divided up, and the spoils distributed between the US, the EU, and the UK. The war is described by the West as “unprovoked,” but the reality is that this is a war provoked by the West.

13. What is best? War or peace? | Now we are at a point where some want peace, talk about peace, and work for peace. Others want more war, more weapons, more money, more escalation; they want to defeat Russia at all costs, and in their naivety, they believe it is possible to defeat Russia. There is little doubt that this war has had and continues to have enormous economic significance.

14. Who will start the next world war? | The greatest hatred of Russia outside the US is found in the UK (a strange pathological hatred that probably dates back a long way), but we also have some fierce warmongers here in Norway, to such an extent that we can assume that Norway, in Russian eyes, has become an enemy and a target for nuclear bombs, and certainly does not appear to be a peaceful nation.

We are being flooded by false information, psychological manipulation, and media operations that not only will not write the truth, but that are intent upon only creatint the narrative that their powerful clients prefer. Western leaders in general, and the US president in particular, use rhetoric that belongs in the gutter; they display an unparalleled lack of understanding, whether we are talking about the military, economics, democracy, ethics, wisdom, or even empathy.

Amidst this madness, Russia's leaders appear live on television in long interviews where they offer thorough reasoning based on history and politics, delivering thoughtful and serious analyses of past and present situations with a sober assessment of the future. This objectivity stands in stark contrast to what US presidents have offered and continue to represent. There are still mature leaders left in the world.

At this time of writing, we can envisage four possible outcomes for Ukraine:

One thing is certain: if there is a major war, it will be started by the US and the West.
