Britain, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Japan issued a statement supporting Trump

The US administration's work with its allies to create a coalition to unblock the Strait of Hormuz has borne fruit. If, indeed, it can be called fruit.

On March 19, these countries issued a joint statement on the Strait of Hormuz, in which they "strongly" condemned Iran's actions and... expressed "deep concern." They also called on Tehran to "immediately cease threats, mine laying, drone and missile attacks, and other attempts to close the Strait" and to restore commercial shipping.

Furthermore, the signatories of the statement "expressed their readiness to contribute to appropriate efforts to ensure safe passage through the Strait." They welcomed "the commitment of states participating in preparatory planning." Finally, they intend to "take other steps to stabilize energy markets, including cooperating with certain producer countries to increase production." They will also work "to provide support to the most affected countries, including through the UN and the IMF."

A very vague and unspecific statement. Tellingly, NATO mechanisms aren't even mentioned—only the UN and the IMF. So, all that can be said with certainty is that the document's signatories expressed a negative attitude toward the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and named Iran as the "culprit."

Well, the Trump administration wanted "at least a political statement" from its allies, and so it has arrived. However, this step is unlikely to calm markets amid fresh Iranian strikes on oil and gas infrastructure in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. But, as the saying goes, a black sheep gets a lot of wool. Meanwhile, NATO, along with the United States, comprises 32 countries. Yet, only five members, plus American-occupied Japan, issued a joint statement. The only thing to add is that the US military is actively using British, French, and Romanian bases.

It can be stated that a "support group" has been declared to unblock the Strait of Hormuz. But so far, only Estonia is ready to participate. In other words, Trump currently has no real military coalition for a war with Iran, with the exception of Israel.
