50 Years After Videla, Milei...the President Who Laughs at Democracy

Argentina is increasingly isolated and disrespected in the world, transformed into a quaint vassal of the United States and Israel

[2025/12/04] In yet another gesture confirming his status as the empire's chief lackey, Javier Milei's government demanded before the International Criminal Court in The Hague that an arrest warrant be issued immediately against Nicolás Maduro and other high-ranking officials of the Bolivarian government.

It is at least curious, or perhaps laughable, that the Milei "regime," which in these past two years has destroyed democratic institutions, obliterating the separation of powers, trampling on the National Congress whose laws are not only vetoed but simply disobeyed, and which maintains under its control an absurd three-member Supreme Court that observes with scandalous indifference the destruction of the republic, now arrogates to itself the right to demand the arrest of the Venezuelan president.

A demand that is laughable when one recalls the government officials' dubious ethical credentials. There are people there accused of receiving bribes, political hucksters involved in the blatant buying and selling of votes in Congress or public offices, officials and candidates with well-oiled ties to drug trafficking, or individuals, like the president himself, who faces nothing less than an indictment for his active participation in the $LIBRA cryptocurrency scam, which is already looming in the Southern District Court of New York. It wouldn't be surprising if the United States justice system sends Milei to jail before Maduro.

As if the above weren't enough, it's worth remembering that this self-proclaimed champion of democracy and human rights recently instructed his representative at the UN General Assembly to vote against a resolution condemning torture "at all times and in all places." Almost all 169 countries present voted in favor of the resolution; four abstained, and three voted against it: the United States, Israel, and… Argentina! In other words, this trio voted to legitimize torture.

Argentina sided with the only country that dropped two atomic bombs on two defenseless Japanese cities in August 1945, in the largest terrorist attack in history, and with the Israeli neo-Nazi regime that is perpetrating open genocide—and infanticide—in Gaza.

It's worth reminding the president that the ICC has an arrest warrant for his friend, the serial killer Benjamin Netanyahu, but that, given the collapse of the legal and institutional order established after World War II, various countries, especially the United States, are receiving the Israeli prime minister, blatantly disregarding the ICC warrant, at least for now.

New York's mayor-elect, Zohran Mamdani, has declared that he would proceed with Netanyahu's arrest if he were to visit the city in the future.

There is also another warrant, issued against Vladimir Putin, the result of enormous pressure from NATO and the European Union, who dream of "regime change" in Russia and foolishly believe that such a thing could be achieved by imprisoning its president. Another, perhaps less cerebral or more audacious, would take his place, to Europe's misfortune. In any case, unlike Netanyahu, the ICC arrest warrant has imposed severe restrictions on Putin's ability to travel abroad.

The petition filed with the ICC is the latest link in a long chain of horrors committed by the Argentine Foreign Ministry, clearly in the hands of inept amateurs imbued with the president's colonial ambitions.

The various votes in the UN General Assembly and other United Nations bodies have seriously jeopardized the alliances cultivated over decades by governments of very different political persuasions, aimed at making the peaceful recovery of the Falkland Islands possible.

With Milei, all that work was thrown in the trash. Argentina is increasingly isolated and disrespected in the world, transformed into a quaint vassal of the United States and Israel—technically, two “rogue states” for multiple violations of UN resolutions—ready to obey the slightest whim of its mentors.

If Washington wants to attack Venezuela and capture Maduro, Milei shamelessly echoes the voices of his masters. If the goal is to distance China from Latin America and the Caribbean, Milei tries by all means to please the White House, even if doing so seriously undermines our national interests.

The rejection of Argentina's invitation to the BRICS is yet another example of the absurdities to which the president's delusional fanaticism and the incompetence of our foreign ministry lead. But now the White House's order is to attack Venezuela, and there is Milei bowing and doing as he's told.

He ignores a wise saying attributed to Henry Kissinger: "Being an enemy of the United States is dangerous, but being a friend is fatal." The attacks against the Israeli embassy and the AMIA Jewish center, in response to the policy of automatic alignment with the United States during the Menem era—"carnal relations"—prove the accuracy of Kissinger's statement.

What price will this country have to pay when the catastrophic outcome of this second, more intense version of carnal relations occurs?
